Beyond International Relies On Aspera High-Speed Transfer

Beyond International, a leading global production company with over 3900 hours of global television to its credit, has expanded its deployment of Aspera’s high-speed fasp technology for production of hit shows such asMythBusters, Selling Houses, Deadly Women, Behind Mansion Walls and Toy Box.

AsperaBeyond has a number of experienced program makers who create and produce programs across a number of genres, with a focus on factual entertainment, family and documentary programs and series broadcast on Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Seven, Nine, ABC, SBS and Lifestyle Channels.

Production of these highly rated shows depends on a complex global workflow, with teams collaborating and sharing content quickly to meet tight production deadlines. For example, MythBusters is shot in San Francisco, edited in Australia, with the executive producer in the United Kingdom.

Beyond were originally moving files internationally using FTP, and experienced the usual challenges with latency, dropouts and slow speeds. After a careful evaluation of available alternatives, Beyond selected and deployed Aspera Connect Server to move full resolution video between on-site locations, the creative post-production team, and the show producers.

“The predictability of Aspera transfer performance and the added efficiencies in our workflows has allowed us to focus on the creative aspect of our business, without worrying about moving content from where it is created to where it is needed,” said Billy Cobbe, IT manager, Beyond International.

“We don’t just like Aspera, we love it!” said Dan Tapster, executive producer, MythBusters.

“Creating high-quality programming requires the ability to share and exchange content within teams regardless of where they are located, across continents and around the world,” said Michelle Munson, CEO and president of Aspera. “By leveraging Aspera’s high-speed transfer software, Beyond can let the business needs drive the selection of location and production rather then having it determined by the infrastructure.”
