Daktronics To Outfit Wichita State’s Charles Koch Arena with 24 New Video Displays

When Wichita State University basketball returns to Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, KN, after the Shockers’ successful tournament run last year, it will be welcomed with new LED video and audio systems from Daktronics of Brookings, SD. Daktronics will design, manufacture, and install a total of 24 new video displays throughout the arena.

“Wichita State is excited to partner with Daktronics on this project,” said Brad Pittman, Wichita State’s associate athletic director for facilities and events. “After a very successful 2012-13 athletic and academic season, this will be a nice addition to Charles Koch Arena. We are hopeful this project will take the fan experience to another level for our volleyball and basketball supporters.”

The focal point of the new installation – the four-sided centerhung display configuration – will feature four LED video displays, each measuring 12 feet high by 15 feet wide and using a tight 6 millimeter line spacing. These displays can show one large image to highlight live video and instant replays, but can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements.

Above and below the main video displays, Daktronics will install LED ring displays with each featuring 15 millimeter line spacing and measuring 2 feet high. In circumference, the upper ring will measure 98 feet and the lower ring will measure 61 feet.

A total of 18 auxiliary displays will also be installed throughout the arena above the entrances to the seating bowl. Each auxiliary display will measure 2 feet tall by 8 feet wide. These displays, along with the ring displays, will provide the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events and provide up-to-the-minute statistics and game information.

All of Daktronics video display technology will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility to appeal to every seat in the arena.

“Daktronics is proud to partner with Wichita State to provide them with their LED display needs,” said Ryan Kuzman, Daktronics sales representative. “The new centerhung displays combined with all of the auxiliary displays and audio system will really help enhance the home-crowd advantage and the overall fan experience at every event. We’re excited for the university to fire up the displays after installation this fall to see their investment in action.”

Daktronics will also be including another Show Control user station with this installation in addition to the stations already in use by the university. The system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration, and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution.

A custom audio system, which will be integrated with the video and scoring system, will also be added to the arena. The system provides full-range sound reproduction, delivers clear and intelligible speech, and ultimately ensures a powerful audio experience for the fans. Daktronics audio offers high quality audio systems that can integrate with dynamic displays in indoor and outdoor sport venues.

In addition to the equipment installation, Wichita State will also receive a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services. This content will consist of any mixture of sponsorship messages, crowd prompts, headshots, game opens and venue announcements at the request of the university.

Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
