Wimbledon, the BBC, and 3DTV

Two different takes on the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon in 3D. And the BBC’s take on 3D

The first from engadget.com, which is somewhat balanced at http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/04/bbc-to-broadcast-wimbledon-finals-and-semi-finals-matches-in-3d/

The second, from HDTVTest.co.uk, which from the title (“BBC Relegates Wimbledon 3D To Red Button HD: The End Is Nigh”) has a definite opinion: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/bbc-wimbledon-3d-201307043160.htm

Meanwhile, BroadbandTVNews.com reports that the BBC is to take a three-year holiday from the development of 3D programming with the corporation’s head of 3D admitting the UK public had not taken to the format.

Kim Shillinglaw used an interview with the Radio Times to explain there would be a three-year gap in the BBC’s 3D project once the current two year trial comes to an end later this year.
