Analysis: Does the 2DS mean 3D gaming has failed?

Nintendo’s recent announcement of the 2DS handheld is another confirmation in an emerging trend we’ve seen for quite a while now; the growing irrelevance of 3D. While once touted as the next step in how we would consume media, the latest wave of 3D capable technology – whether it be 3D televisions, 3D cameras and 3D gaming devices – seems to be fading into obscurity. Although Nintendo’s handheld has been reportedly selling very well recently, it seems that the company has finally decided to abandon what is perhaps its most unique feature.
