West Coast Conference Launches TheW.tv
Story Highlights
The West Coast Conference has launched TheW.tv, the home for WCC sports action on both linear television and in the digital space. TheW.tv will deliver West Coast Conference live games, regular studio programming, and exclusive live coverage from every WCC championship free of charge, featuring the tagline, “All the action. Anytime. Anywhere.”
“We are thrilled to bring our fans more live and on-demand content than ever before from every West Coast Conference sport through virtually every platform,” says Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. “Whether you’re near your television, computer, mobile device, or tablet – live or on-demand, West Coast Conference action is never more than a click away. With TheW.tv, we are striving to bring the games and highlights to our fans – wherever they might be.”
Launched in beta last year, the on-line platform, powered by Campus Insiders, will provide more than 125 free live TV-quality broadcasts of West Coast Conference sports throughout the year – including a robust soccer and volleyball “Game of the Week” schedule beginning later this week. During the basketball season, Campus Insiders will produce at least 20 games exclusively for the digital platform while also taking another 40+ West Coast Conference regional telecasts out of market exclusively in the digital space – all at no cost to the viewer.
WCC institutions will also produce live games and on-demand video content year round, which can be found along with all other content on TheW.tv, in the official West Coast Conference smartphone and tablet apps, and through connected televisions and other on-line syndication.
As part of TheW.tv, West Coast Conference regional television partners will continue to produce fully-HD men’s basketball telecasts to nearly 20 million homes throughout the WCC’s footprint. These telecasts will be made available on TheW.tv to out-of-market viewers. In all, WCC fans can watch up to 58 telecasts on TheW.tv this season – no matter where they are around the world.
Over the last year leading up to the launch, Campus Insiders has been producing regular West Coast Conference content out of its state-of-the-art Chicago studio. In addition, the conference and CI brought on WCC correspondent Amanda Blackwell – the first full-time reporter dedicated to covering all things West Coast Conference.
Now, the CI platform also features a daily show hosted by Bonnie Bernstein, and a bi-weekly long-form interview show hosted by Seth Davis. Another differentiator with TheW.tv is Campus Insiders’ robust syndication network. West Coast Conference fans can expect to find WCC video content regularly on sites such as Yahoo Sports, SI.com, and USA Today Sports, among others.
To deliver fans live content from anywhere, the West Coast Conference has also partnered with LiveU to deploy LiveU’s LU70 cellular backpacks and other LiveU products across WCC schools in venues that do not have Internet connectivity. In addition, TheW.tv will also provide live coverage from West Coast Conference championships along with exclusive live on-the-go content, which may include live press conferences, practices, and more, across a variety of athletics departments.
The first live broadcast on TheW.tv will took place on Thursday, September 19 when Santa Clara visits Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference volleyball opener.
