Big West Conference, ESPN Collaborate on New Mobile Production Facility

The Big West, in consultation with ESPN, has built a mobile production facility that will allow the Conference to produce as many as 60 events from five Southern California member institutions annually for ESPN3. Live coverage of two Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament semifinal games on ESPN3 this week at Cal State Fullerton marks the launch of the unique collaboration between the Conference and ESPN.

The production will utilize full ESPN production standards, including graphics, replay, and on-air crew.  It is the first fully operational mobile production unit of its kind that expands upon what ESPN Emerging Technology has already achieved at the institutional level.

“The Big West Conference is excited about undertaking this ambitious project into the realm of ESPN3 and continuing to do all we can to promote and publicize the successes of our institutions and the quality of their programs across several sports,” says Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell.  “Our new relationship with ESPN complements our national broadcast arrangement with ESPN’s linear platforms – ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.”

The package, which also includes live contests in women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball, debuted on Nov. 7, with a pair of Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament semifinal games at Cal State Fullerton.
