Vincennes, Liberty Universities Erect New Daktronics Video Boards

Daktronics continued to penetrate the college venue market with its two latest installments: a centerhung video display inside Vincennes University’s Physical Education Complex and a new LED video display for Liberty University’s Softball Field and another LED display for the school’s TV studio.

Vincennes University’s New Centerhung Dak Board
Vincennes University (VU) athletics added the centerhung video display designed and manufactured by Daktronics inside the Physical Education Complex in Vincennes, IN, in March.

Daktronics005“We’re very excited to have worked with Daktronics to bring this new state-of-the-art display system to the university,” says Vincennes University Director of Procurement Michael Morrison. “It will definitely enhance every game day and provide a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone inside the Physical Education Complex.”

The Trailblazers’ new centerhung features a four-sided video display. Each display measures approximately 7 feet high by 11 feet wide and includes 6 millimeter line spacing. These displays are capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. They can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements. All of these displays incorporate solid image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility.

In addition to the other equipment, Daktronics also installed two fixed-digit basketball scoreboards, three LED game clocks/shot timers and six locker room clocks.

“We are very excited to be installing our 6 millimeter indoor display product at VU. This has been a great experience for me and our team working directly with the University,” says Ryan Stratton, Daktronics sales representative. “We have spent a great deal of time working with the school to identify their needs and the available infrastructure of the building. Through this process we have been able to maximize the equipment and find the most efficient way of accomplishing this project. We are very proud of the work thus far and are very eager to see the new displays in use. This equipment will offer a profound visual presentation that is unparalleled at any college or university in Indiana. The University’s new Daktronics equipment selections will put their show on par with professional teams.”

Daktronics included its Show Control System with this installation. This system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration, and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution.

The centerhung is raised and lowered using a custom-designed, permanently-installed hoist system from Daktronics. This system, which incorporates the latest in hoisting technology and safety, is used to support the display at varying elevations depending on the arena’s needs.

In addition to the equipment installation, Vincennes University also received a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services. This content will consist of any mixture of sponsorship messages, crowd prompts, headshots, game opens and venue announcements at the request of the Trailblazers.

Liberty Adds LED Displays for Softball, TV Studio
Liberty University has also called on Daktronics to design, manufacture and install a new LED video display for Liberty Softball Field and another LED display for the school’s TV studio.

“This new 4 millimeter display is absolutely beautiful and will be the centerpiece of our new Liberty Flames Sports Network TV studio. This will serve as the backdrop to our daily sports shows,” says David Diamond, a media technician at Liberty University.

The indoor TV studio LED display measures approximately 8 feet high by 16 feet wide and features tight 4 millimeter line spacing. It is capable of highlighting live video and can show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations and sponsor advertisements. The display enhances visibility by incorporating excellent image clarity and contrast at close viewing distances.

The new TV studio set piece will follow a variety of recent Daktronics installations at Liberty University. Liberty has previously installed LED video displays for their basketball arena, baseball facility, football stadium and soccer field. All of these displays were installed within the past two to three years.

“Daktronics is proud to once again partner with Liberty University,” says Matt Braegelmann, Daktronics sales representative. “With the new indoor display being used in a unique setting, I am confident that this will greatly enhance the production and visual appeal of their TV studio.”

The display at Liberty Softball Field will measure approximately 14 feet high by 18 feet wide and feature a 15 HD pixel layout. It will be used to provide live video and replays across the entire display but can also be windowed into smaller sections to provide a combination of statistics, animations and graphics, advertisements, and other game information. This outdoor display will feature solid image quality while also providing multiple levels of protection from the elements.

“We’re excited to install a new video display for softball at Liberty University,” says Charley Bocklet, Daktronics sales representative. “This display will help enhance the game-day atmosphere at the Liberty Softball Field to create an even greater home field advantage at every game.”
