3D TV falls further out of favor as Sky (UK) omits Premier League matches from schedule

The UK’s Telegraph.co.uk reports that the future of 3D television called into question as Sky chooses not to schedule any Premier League matches in 3D this season.
Just a few years ago, it was hailed as the next big thing in television.
But it appears 3D TV has already fallen from favour, as Sky omits to schedule any Premier League football matches on its dedicated channel so far this season.
Sky, which was one of the pioneers of the format, has not confirmed any fixtures before December on its 3D channel, saying it is being “more selective” in its coverage.
The format has failed to catch on with viewers throughout the industry, with 3D glasses proving unpopular at home and the extensive costs of filming not being justified by consumer demand.
The BBC last year announced it was abandoning its own 3D experiment, after audience appetite for the format failed to materialise.
Sky’s 3D channel has been a big draw for audiences, who have signed up for its packages for sport, entertainment and film.
It is now understood to be reducing the number of sporting events on the channel and concentrating on peak viewing times. It has not yet confirmed which sports will still be covered.
It will continue to broadcast on its Sky 3D channel, with around 90 programmes including natural histories series from Sir David Attenborough still available to watch.
