There's a New Technology That Encourages You to Scream At Your TV to Skip Commercials

Esquire.com reports that we already walk around talking into headphones like crazy people, but soon the king of making us look nuts will be Sony, lord of the living room. Sony has filed for a US patent to let viewers skip commercials by shouting the name of the advertised product at the TV.

“Ruby Tuesday’s cheese fries!”

The idea comes as a solution to how humans have evolved in this era flooded with ads. Our brains have learned to tune out the singing kitty in the background until the game comes back on because suck it, Meow Mix. We’re here to watch Terrell Suggs follow Ray Rice down the hole of shame, not listen to your ingenious jingle. But this ad innovation may end that.

“Meow Mix savory morsels with real beef in gravy!”

Aside from making us shout at inanimate objects, Sony’s patent application also includes the rights to create interactive commercials. The company aims to coerce viewers into actually viewing by allowing us to speed up commercials with minigames playable through videogame controllers.
