Okay, with that out of the way, here are the top 12 reasons to join us for this year’s SVG Summit!
#1: Learn from the experts and attend our Sports Production Sessions!
Beginning on the afternoon of Dec. 14, SVG members will take to the stage and discuss the latest in sports production technology and workflows. Top executive producers, key technology decision makers, and experts in the business of sports television will share their accomplishments in 2015 as well as plans for 2016.
#2: Be informed and attend the Keynote Conversation between MLB’s Bob Bowman and ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap!
ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap will once again be at the center of a lively discussion with an industry newsmaker: Bob Bowman, President, Business & Media of Major League Baseball. Bowman directs revenue-generating and media-rights activities across all MLB entities while continuing to oversee MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM) and MLB Network. Be sure to join us on the morning of Dec. 15!
#3: See technology in action at more than 70 exhibits from your favorite equipment and services providers!
Let’s face it. Visiting your favorite technology providers at NAB involves a lot of walking from booth to booth. That’s what makes our exhibits so great: you can see the most important players without wearing out your shoes and feet.
#4: Our opening night happy hour… this round is on us!
Oh… and making our exhibition even better is our opening night happy hour, held in our exhibit area on Dec. 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Two solid hours of networking, appetizers, and free drinks to help you ease into your evening dinner plans.
#5: The Remote Engineering Workshop moves to a bigger room, so join us and take a seat!
The Remote Engineering Workshop has become a tradition unlike any other, giving those involved in remote-production facility design and operations a chance to come together and discuss hot topics like new approaches to truck design, the challenge of going green, and the move to IP-based operations. This year’s session is moving to a bigger room to make it easier for everyone who wants to attend to take a seat and be part of the conversation.
#6: Unique venue production needs come into focus!
In an effort to serve the information, networking, and business needs of engineering, IT, and broadcast executives in sports venues, the SVG Venue Initiative will host a Venue Production Workshop. Topics will include enhancing interoperability between the venue and broadcasters, the growth of IP workflows in venues, how LED lighting is changing the way fans see the game, and the mobile-fan experience. All end users are welcome to join us for this lively afternoon of sessions on Dec. 14. Please note: Sponsors need to join the SVG Venue Initiative in order to gain access to this Workshop. For more information, contact Rob Payne ([email protected]) and Andrew Gabel ([email protected]).
#7: SVG College: Live From New York!
The SVG College Initiative returns to the SVG Summit this year to offer informative presentations and discussions addressing the robust college sports video production industry. With major networks, conference digital networks, and athletic departments all producing more live and on-demand college sports content than ever before, a whole new industry of sports video production has emerged with its own set of unique challenges and opportunities. Join us at the SVG College: New York Workshop at the SVG Summit in New York City to network with industry peers and leaders in technology development and help take your career and your organization to the next level.
Please note: Sponsors need to join the SVG College Initiative in order to gain access to this Workshop. For more information, contact Rob Payne ([email protected]) and Andrew Gabel ([email protected]).
#8: Keep up to date on the ever-evolving area of asset management and storage!
The Sports Asset Management & Storage (SAMS) Workshop is designed for SVG members and sponsors who would like to discuss the current state of asset management technology as it relates to near-term and long-term strategies. This year’s SAMS Workshop will address a variety of topics, including computer vision tools to automate metadata assignment, the impact of big data, challenges in storing 4K/8K/HDR content, mitigating doomsday scenarios and disaster recovery, and new tiering strategies from nearline to deep archive. The workshop will also feature a pair of case studies and close with a session entitled “SAMS Parting Shots,” which will serve as an open forum for all SVG Summit attendees to ask top MAM execs their most pressing questions.
#9: Listen up at the annual DTV Audio event!
The DTV Audio Group meeting has become a must-attend for those involved in all aspects of audio production and operations. The sessions are always informative, the debates always lively, and the leadership top notch. Topics this year include an update on wireless microphone spectrum, evolving concepts for remote production, IP audio infrastructure, and next-generation audio services.
#10: Network at the Women’s Sports Media Initiative Annual Meeting!
SVG’s Women’s Sports Media Initiative (WSMI) is a networking group that aims to enhance the role of women in the creation, production, and distribution of sports content. This year’s meeting will include a panel discussion on sports-production management, plenty of networking opportunities, and light refreshments. All are welcome! To reserve your spot at the meeting, please contact Karen Hogan at [email protected].
#11: New this year: Cloud-Based Workflows Technology Spotlight!
This year, the SVG Summit will feature the inaugural Cloud-Based Workflows Technology Spotlight, which will focus on groundbreaking cloud-based workflows currently being deployed by sports-production organizations. This new seminar aims to provide Summit attendees with insight into how the cloud technologies are changing the entire video-production ecosystem and will include a series of four case studies followed by a panel entitled “Best Practices in Cloud-Based Production and Content Management.”
#12: Learn how OTT, fantasy sports, apps, and digital platforms are changing the industry!
Now that the second screen is actually becoming the first screen for an entire generation of sports fans, what is the impact of this mobile experience on productions that have been traditionally big-screen oriented? How are producers now integrating more data and stats into the production to provide a richer, more interactive viewer/participant experience?
#13: Let’s make it a baker’s dozen… because there is no better place to be!
The sessions and exhibits referenced above are only part of the reason to attend the SVG Summit. The best reason to attend is to be part of an experience that not only informs but celebrates our industry. From the networking opportunities in the hallways and exhibits to the accomplishments being lauded on stage and then to the Hall of Famers who will be honored at the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame ceremony on Dec. 15, the event — from start to finish — celebrates everything that makes the SVG community the best in the business.
