MLB Network Upgrades Live Remote Production Capabilites With EVS

MLB Network is using EVS Xplore web-browsing interface and XSquare file exchange solution to give production teams located at its New Jersey production facility the unique capability to securely access and enhance live content from an event venue, without needing to access content through the cloud.

EVS_LOGO_CMYKWith Xplore, production teams can view live streams, create media packages and archive without impacting production truck workflows and resources onsite. The solution is enabled by EVS XSquare, which provides secure file exchange through WAN/LAN connections for immediate and direct access to live multi-camera recording feeds and clips on EVS XT3 servers in place at the venue.  These solutions are part of the new EVS C-Next content contribution platform, introduced at NAB.

“This is our second season using the EVS Xplore interface, and it has dramatically improved our workflow.  Producers at our headquarters in New Jersey can work independently without affecting any operations on the remote truck,” said Ben Friedfeld, tape producer at MLB Network. “In the live environment, Xplore gives us another set of eyes, which is critical when things move so quickly. A producer at the studio can see it all come down and is able to choose everything from shots that help a breakdown to color shots for use in a re-tease.”

Xplore’s unique multi-camera interface makes selecting angles easy, and puts the content into the familiar, comfortable environment of the studio and the edit suite.  Producers have instant access and selection for repurposing, re-packaging and second-screen companion apps, and archivists can log and make content available as it is happening.

“This was a collaborative effort with MLB Network, designed to enable better efficiency and ultimately even better viewing experiences.” said Quentin Grutman, SVP, the Americas at EVS.  “The ability to securely and instantly access, review and enhance content — regardless of location — is giving sports networks, content owners and rights holders unprecedented freedom and flexibility.”
