IBC 2016: Following success in Rio, FileCatalyst shows off FileCatalyst Central v.37 in Amsterdam

FileCatalyst will demo FileCatalyst Central v3.7, which was used by NBC Olympics in their coverage of the Games in Rio. This is the second time FileCatalyst technology has been used by a major U.S. broadcaster to assist in the production of the Games.

filecatalyst_240hThis time however, the newly updated FileCatalyst Central allowed broadcasters to monitor transfers in real time and track their entire FileCatalyst deployment. Sending over 10 TB of footage each day of the Games, FileCatalyst Central offered the ability to oversee thousands of file transfers in real-time from Rio to the broadcaster’s headquarters in the United States. In addition, FileCatalyst Central provides a pure HTML front end in order to administer any attached nodes, allowing an entire enterprise to be managed from a single web based console.

“Version 3.7 is the biggest update FileCatalyst Central has ever seen,” says FileCatalyst CEO and Co-founder, Chris Bailey. “This version gives our users an unprecedented level of control over their entire FileCatalyst deployment, providing a visual map to track transfers in real-time from a multitude of locations which for an event like the Rio Games, is crucial.”

“FileCatalyst did a great job in Sochi and we knew they would be up for the even greater challenge of the Rio Games,” says Jim Miles, Director, Digital Workflow Systems, NBC Sports Group. “They proved this in how well their system handled the load and FileCatalyst Central version 3.7 provided even better monitoring tools to help manage the traffic.”

The Games in Rio have been widely discussed as the “biggest yet” with over 10,000 athletes from 206 countries competing in 306 events. With the Closing Ceremony only a few weeks before the start of IBC, the focus of FileCatalyst at IBC will be to celebrate and highlight the successes of this broadcasting achievement.

FileCatalyst will exhibit at Booth 7.H37 at IBC where they will offer a live demonstration of the technology used by NBC Olympics during their production of the Rio Games, focusing on the newly updated FileCatalyst Central. In addition, they will demonstrate updates to FileCatalyst Direct including Server, HotFolder and TransferAgent.
