Univision Will Stream 46 Liga MX Matches Via Facebook Live in the U.S.

Live matches will be available in English and exclusively in the U.S.

Univision Deportes has struck a deal that will bring selected Liga MX matches in English to viewers in the U.S. via Facebook Live.

Univision_DeportesThe slate of games — which will total 46 by season’s end — begins Saturday with a match between Club America and Chivas and will run through and include the playoffs. Commentary will be in English, and the streams will be available only in the U.S.

“Sports are inherently social, with the power to build and connect communities around the world,” said Facebook Head of Global Sports Partnerships Dan Reed in a statement via e-mail. “This aligns closely with our mission, and we feel Facebook is a natural home for sports content, including live games.

“Early experiments with these events on Facebook,” he continues, “have delivered great results for fans, broadcasters, and rightsholders. People around the world are tuning into matches ranging from global football to table tennis, while broadcasters and rightsholders are reaching new audiences and experimenting with interactive, social, and mobile-first productions. We plan to bring fans more live games from a variety of sports in the Video tab and will collaborate closely with our partners to do so in a way that supports their business goals.”

The streams can be accessed in the U.S. at Univision Deportes’ Facebook page.

Neither party disclosed financial terms of the agreement.
