Audio-Technica Showcases Content Creation Microphones At NAB 2018
At NAB 2018, A-T is showcasing their new microphones, including the  AT8024 Stereo/Mono Camera-Mount microphone, AT2020USB+ Cardioid Condenser USB microphone, AT2020USBi Cardioid Condenser USB microphone, System 10 Camera-Mount portable digital wireless system, BP40 Large-Diaphragm dynamic broadcast microphone, AT2005USB cardioid dynamic USB/XLR microphone.

The lightweight, feature-rich AT8024 is suited for video production, in-field interviews, product demos – wherever capturing high-quality audio for video is the task at hand. Selectable cardioid mono and internally matrixed mid-side stereo modes provide the flexibility to focus the recording on a single sound source or to widen the field for outstanding sonic realism, while selectable filters and pads extend its flexibility.

The AT2020USBi is suited for tasks including podcasting, remote streaming into IOS devices and voiceover use. Modeled after the AT2020, this digital output mic features an A/D converter with up to 24-bit/96 kHz sampling, both use USB and Lightning connector cables and an integrated gain control.

From the same family, the AT2020USB+ is suited for podcasting, home studio recording, streaming and voiceover use. Equipped with a USB output, the AT2020USB+ adds a built-in headphone jack with volume control that allows direct, delay-free monitoring, with a mix control that blends microphone and pre-recorded audio. The cardioid mic supports 16-bit, 44.1/48 kHz sampling rates.

The System 10 Camera-mount wireless is suited for video production, electronic news gathering (ENG) and every mobile application in between. The receiver features multiple mounting options to accommodate a variety of cameras and recording devices. System 10 digital wireless mics provide multi-layer diversity performance assurance, with instantaneous channel selection, sync and setup in the license-free, TV-interference-free 2.4 GHz band. The system is available in bodypack and handheld configurations with an audio resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz.

The BP40 large-diaphragm dynamic microphone is suited for podcasting, streaming and broadcast. The advanced-design mic includes a multi-stage internal windscreen, and offers rich, natural condenser-like sound. The optimized capsule placement keeps the audio focused on the broadcaster to maintain a commanding vocal presence free from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and popping.

The final highlight is the AT2005USB, suited for voice-over-IP, podcasting and, as it features both a USB output and an XLR analog output, it can be used from stage to studio to field recording and VoIP applications. The cardioid AT2005USB also includes a headphone output with level control for monitoring.

“Audio-Technica is pleased to be showcasing some of its most popular products for content creators,” says Gary Boss, Audio-Technica U.S. Marketing Director, Professional Markets. “These products are cost effective and easy to use – even for users who might not have the experience of a seasoned audio professional.”

Audio-Technica Adds Handheld Transmitter to 6000 Series Line
Audio-Technica is also showing the ATW-T6002x Handheld Transmitter for the 6000 Series High Density Wireless System – a spectrum-efficient solution that allows users to pack 31 channels in 4 MHz of bandwidth, at NAB 2018.

The ATW-T6002x handheld transmitter offers extremely low handling noise and features a metal construction body, high-visibility OLED screen, soft-touch controls and switchable RF power (2 mW/10 mW/50 mW). Its industry-standard thread mount allows for the use of six new interchangeable A-T microphone capsules, as well as other compatible capsules.

The 2016 FCC Incentive Auction has resulted in a repack of the broadcast spectrum, reducing the amount of spectrum available for wireless microphone operations and driving the need for spectrum-efficient technology to operate a high number of simultaneous channels in today’s market. To address this issue, Audio-Technica developed the 6000 Series, whose channels are spaced at 125 KHz intervals and can all be used simultaneously. The system operates in the 944-952 MHz band, which is free of broadcast TV.

The FCC has expanded license eligibility for this band beyond broadcasters and content creators to include sound companies and venues that routinely operate 50 wireless microphones or more. The 6000 Series system consists of the following components: the ATW-R6200S receiver, the ATW-T6001S body-pack transmitter and new ATW-T6002x handheld transmitter, an optional ATW-DA410 antenna distribution system, and a number of compatible Audio-Technica lavalier and headworn microphones. Key features include high-performance filtering to remove external noise; clear, easy-to-read displays; transmitter frequency setup from receiver via IR sync; network monitor and control; durable, compact body-pack transmitter design with a highly reliable new miniature input connector.

Fourth-Generation 3000 Series Frequency-Agile True Diversity UHF Wireless Systems
Also at NAB 2018, Audio-Technica exhibited the next generation of its 3000 Series Frequency-Agile True Diversity UHF Wireless Systems. Providing easy setup, versatile operation and rock-solid, richly detailed high-fidelity sound, A-T’s fourth-generation 3000 Series wireless systems give users the power and flexibility to operate within the congested UHF spectrum.

With a class-leading 60 MHz tuning range, which is more than twice that offered by the previous versions, the new 3000 Series systems are available in two frequency bands – DE2 (470–530 MHz) and EE1 (530–590 MHz). Frequencies can be easily scanned and selected on the receiver and then synced with the transmitter via IR sync functionality. The 3000 Series even lets users set a backup frequency that can be quickly swapped by pressing the transmitter’s multifunction button in the event of unexpected interference.

Available system configurations feature an ATW-R3210 receiver along with an ATW-T3201 body-pack or ATW-T3202 handheld transmitter. The ATW-T3201 is equipped with Audio-Technica’s new rugged cH-style screw-down 4-pin connector for secure connection to A-T’s cH-style lavalier and headworn microphones, or cables. The ATW-T3202 comes with either an ATW-C510 dynamic or ATW-C710 condenser interchangeable cardioid capsule, and its industry-standard thread allows for the use of A-T and other compatible capsules. Both transmitters feature metal housings and are powered by two AA batteries. Charging terminals on each transmitter work with the ATW-CHG3 and networkable ATW-CHG3N smart charging docks (sold separately) to recharge NiMH batteries. Antenna power is available for powered antennas and other in-line RF devices. A ground-lift switch helps eliminate audible hum caused by ground loops. The systems feature balanced and unbalanced audio output jacks.

Additional features:

  • An auto squelch feature automatically adjusts the squelch setting to maximize operating range while minimizing potential interference.
  • The system’s dual-mode receiver display can switch between standard view or a performance view that highlights key metering.
  • Transmitters and receivers include OLED screens for optimal readout of key settings and alerts.
  • Body-pack transmitter features tactile mute toggle switch (defeatable) for physical confirmation of mute status when transmitter display is not visible.
  • Handheld transmitter offers extremely low handling noise and includes an industry-standard thread for use with interchangeable A-T microphone capsules as well as other compatible capsules.
  • Six new microphone capsules (based on popular A-T models) are available to give users greater control of their sound.
  • System has an operating range of 300 feet (100 m).
