SportsTechBuzz at NAB 2018 in Review: North Hall, Outside/Mobile, and More

What was new, exciting, and interesting at the show

The SVG and SVG Europe editorial teams were out in full force at last week’s NAB 2018, covering the biggest sports-technology news and delivering daily “SportsTechBuzz at NAB” roundups. Here is a look at the SportsTechBuzz from North Hall, Outside/Mobile, and more.

This edition features G&D North America, High Rock Mobile TV, iStreamPlanet, SVGW, and T-Mobile.

The recently completed 40-ft. High Rock 1 is on exhibit.

High Rock Mobile TV, which set up shop in Gerling and Associates’ booth alongside Clark Media, has its recently completed High Rock 1, a Super Stallion Duel-Stage Expansion Class production vehicle, on display. Designed with a compact, 40-ft. frame, it features a smaller footprint while sustaining the production quality that larger mobile units deliver. High Rock 1 features Sony cameras, including an HDC-4300 super-slo-mo; Grass Valley Kayenne switcher; Utah Scientific Routing; EVS replay servers; and a Cobalt multiviewer system.

iStreamPlanet (Palazzo) recently launched its new direct-to-consumer streaming platform, Orbis. In addition to high-quality video support for content owners, the platform provides deep data-driven analytics. Orbis is the backbone to Turner’s new live sports-streaming service, B/R Live. The platform is free until June, when it will become a subscription-based product that will offer live streaming of major sports events, including the UEFA Champions League (English-speaking U.S. rights).

SVGW’s annual networking lunch offered a presentation by Big Sky Coaching & Consulting’s Lisa Gillette.

Drawing a record crowd of 80 women, SVGW hosted its annual networking lunch at NAB 2018. This year’s edition featured a highly interactive and entertaining presentation by Lisa Gillette, founder of Big Sky Coaching & Consulting, titled “Unconscious Gender Bias in the Workplace.” The lunch was sponsored by Filmwerks International and EVS.

T-Mobile is being described by many exhibitors of wireless microphones as about as considerate as a multibillion-dollar corporation can be when it comes to lighting up its new spectrum. The company has made a number of online resources available to RF coordinators, including ongoing 600 MHz-band notifications and this handy scorecard that shows the progress of the rollout.

G&D’s ControlCenter-IP centralized KVM matrix enables switching of connected computer and workstation modules.

Responding to customer requests for KVM over IP, G&D North America has introduced the ControlCenter-IP. In addition to the existing point-to-point connection of IP extender systems, ControlCenter-IP is a centralized KVM matrix that enables switching of all connected computer and workstation modules. With the addition of the ControlCenter-IP to the portfolio (the system will ship by IBC2018), G&D North America has positioned itself to offer both IP matrix and classical KVM systems, depending on each individual client’s needs.
