2018 NAB Awards Roundup: ATEME, JVC, Matrox, TVU Networks, and More Take Home Show Honors

NAB 2018 is officially in the books, and there is plenty of praise to go around. Here is a roundup of some the big award winners from the show, including ATEME, JVC, Matrox, and TVU Networks.

ATEME’s Convergence TV Project Receives Technology Innovation Award
The NAB presents the Technology Innovation Award to organizations that have made a significant contribution to broadcasting and bring advanced technology exhibits and demonstrations to NAB. The Convergence TV consortium received this year’s award for “For Demonstrating ATSC 3.0 Transmission of UHDTV Using Scalable Coding over Hybrid Broadcast and Broadband Paths.”

At NAB 2018, the Convergence TV Project demonstrated the delivery of a full UHDTV service using an ATSC 3.0 broadcast path for distributing a regular HD service (2K + HDR) and an ATSC 3.0 broadband path for enhancing the service from HD to UHDTV (4K + HDR).

TVU Networks Receives NewBay Best of Show Award
TVU Networks was awarded the NewBay Media Best of NAB Show Award at NAB 2018 for its new TVU Nano with Router. Matrox X.mio5 Q25 SMPTE ST 2110 Network Card Captures Best of Show Award
Matrox’s X.mio5 Q25 SMPTE ST 2110 network interface controller (NIC) card received the NewBay Best of Show Award, presented at NAB 2018 by TV Technology. JVC’s Connected Cam Named Best of NAB 2018 by Streaming Media Producer, Digital Video, and Video Edge
JVC Professional Video announced it received the “Best of NAB 2018” award from Streaming Media Producer for the new GY-HC900 Connected CAM broadcast camcorder. Editors and contributors for Streaming Media and Streaming Media Producer created the list of winning products last week at NAB 2018 in Las Vegas.

“Our editors pored over press releases and walked the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center in search of the most exciting and groundbreaking products at this year’s NAB,” says Eric Schumacher-Rasmusse, editor of Streaming Media. “The winners reflect the innovation going on in the streaming video ecosystem, and will improve the toolbox of anyone involved with delivering video over IP, whether for production, contribution, or distribution to consumers.”

JVC also announced its GY-HC900 Connected CAM broadcast camcorder also received the “NewBay Best of Show Award” from Digital Video and Video Edge at NAB 2018. Now in their fifth year, the NewBay Best of Show Awards are judged by a panel of engineers and industry experts based on innovation, feature set, cost efficiency, and performance in serving the industry.

Ericsson Media Solutions Wins Four ‘Best of Show’ Awards
Ericsson Media Solutions won three ‘Best of Show’ awards for its MediaFirst Video Processing suite. The company also went on to win an ACE (Awesome Cool Exhibits) Award, presented by NAB for ‘Best Large Island Booth’ in recognition of its innovations in stand design and execution.

MediaFirst Encoding Live won a ‘Best of NAB’ award from Streaming Media with its unique implementation of standard dynamic range (SDR) / high dynamic range (HDR) conversion technology. This award honors the best new products that are leading the industry into the future of streaming and is judged by editors and contributors to the publication.

MediaFirst Encoding Live uses real-time intelligent tone mapping algorithms to enable service providers to take control of the display of both SDR and HDR content within the same live broadcast service. This approach empowers service providers to maintain the quality of experience, regardless of the content type, rather than working around the behavior of consumer electronics.

MediaFirst Encoding Live and the SDR/HDR conversion technology was also recognized by NewBay Media in its ‘Best of Show’ awards, which are judged by a panel of engineers and industry experts on the criteria of innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry.

The NewBay Media panel also presented Ericsson Media Solutions with a second ‘Best of Show’ award for its MediaFirst Content Processing solution and its unique implementation of MPEG H for contribution applications. 

MediaFirst Content Processing offers a software and application-based design that enables operators to create a multitude of different processing functions and capabilities on a Common Off The Shelf (COTS) platform and cloud-based network.  Its unique implementation of MPEG H in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS, for contribution applications means that the consumer experience can be enhanced even further by delivering more immersive audio capabilities and differentiating services for TV Service Operators.

VITEC’s EZ TV Video Wall Solution Wins Best of Show Award 
VITEC’s new EZ TV video wall processor, available within the award-winning EZ TV IPTV and Digital Signage Platform, was recognized with a Best of Show Award at the 2018 NAB Show from Sound & Video Contractor (SVC) magazine.

VITEC’s video wall solution is designed to simplify deployment and management of projects involving IPTV, digital signage, and video wall content, while delivering a breathtaking visual experience. The new EZ TV video wall processors are 100 percent hardware-based, feature low-latency native playback of IPTV streams up to 4K, and support interactive content, video, and imagery transformations. More than 50 displays on up to four unique walls can be managed from a single processor, including nonstandard layouts and resolutions of TVs and LED walls.
