The Olympic Channel To Live-Stream 2018 Mediterranean Games; Agree to Terms With 8 Federations

The Olympic Channel, the over-the-top (OTT) global media destination where fans can discover, engage, and share in the power of sport and the excitement of the Olympic Games all year round, will present more than 205 hours of live online coverage of 2018 Mediterranean Games. Taking place in Tarragona, Spain from June 22 to July 1, live streaming coverage will begin on June 23 and will be available worldwide outside of Spain at olympicchannel.com and its mobile apps for Android and iOS. In addition, the channel has reached agreements with eight sport governing bodies and multi-sport organizations to collaborate on content. The eight new cooperation agreements bring the number of the global platform’s federation partners to 75.

2018 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain to Stream Live on the Olympic Channel
During 10 days of competition, the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018 will feature 3,622 athletes competing across 33 sport disciplines. This year’s event will present a record number of athlete entries from 26 different countries with the highest delegations coming from Italy (419), host country Spain (396), Turkey (365), and France (310).

Held in 16 municipalities in and around the territory of Tarragona, the 2018 Mediterranean Games are also expected to host more than 1,000 international judges, 1,000 journalists, 3,500 volunteers, and 150,000 spectators.

The Mediterranean Games are a multi-sport competition usually held every four years that is organized within the Olympic movement, with the recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“We are thrilled to work with Tarragona 2018 to provide coverage of the Mediterranean Games to viewers around the world,” says Mark Parkman, general manager of the IOC’s Olympic Channel. “Live streaming coverage on our global platform will enrich the viewer’s experience and provide additional exposure to these growing sports as well as introduce new sports to a youthful audience.”

Eight Sport Governing Bodies Join Olympic Channel
The Federation of International Lacrosse (FILx), International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV), International Korfball Federation (IKF), International Sumo Federation (IFS), and International Wushu Federation (IWUF), in addition to the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG), International University Sports Federation (FISU), and Special Olympics join multiple federations and sport organizations worldwide who have previously announced similar agreements with the Olympic Channel.

Olympic Channel federation partners include international sports federations (IFs), recognized federations and organizations, multi-sport organizers, and non-recognized federations.

In addition to collaborating on live events, the Olympic Channel actively works with its federation partners to present event coverage, highlights, magazine shows, news coverage, and original programming providing an additional platform to distribute content that is complementary to current broadcast and distribution arrangements.
