Wowza Streaming Engine Adds Support for MPEG-DASH nDVR

Wowza Media Systems has announced support of Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) nDVR to its Wowza Streaming Engine software, with a new update to version 4.7.6. The support of nDVR for MPEG-DASH allows adaptive bitrate streaming applications to implement pause, rewind, play and “jump-to-live” playback functionality for live video.

“By offering the nDVR functions for MPEG-DASH live streams, content providers can now streamline their delivery without having to duplicate workflows to support multiple playback options,” says Chris Cross, General Manager of Core Products at Wowza Media Systems. “The move to include advanced DVR also further emboldens our development for future support of CMAF while providing the playback methods that the industry requires.”

As an internationally recognized standard for adaptive bitrate streaming, MPEG-DASH is central to the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) 2.0.1 specification, which is leveraged in deployments all across Europe. With the new update, application providers who are already working with MPEG-DASH delivery can now implement the advanced playback features and create code-agnostic applications using a variety of formats.
