Lawo Mixing Consoles, Software Detail Padamyar FM Radio in Myanmar
Story Highlights
With more than 7 million residents, Yangon, the capitol city of Myanmar, represents one of the fastest-growing media centers in Asia. One of the most popular outlets for news, information, and entertainment is Padamyar FM.
When it came time to refresh their facility, Padamyar FM selected Lawo and purchased the equipment from Myanmar systems integrator Elevate Broadcast. Lawo products used in the rebuild include a Lawo crystal mixing console, Compact Engine AoIP mixing platforms, and VisTool GUI-builder software. The new facilities debuted in August 2018.
Padamyar FM’s on-air control room employs a 12-fader crystal console augmented by a VisTool virtual mixer, which extends the crystal’s mixing capabilities. Custom VisTool presets allow users to instantly recall source assignments and other settings on both mixing devices simultaneously, enhancing operator speed and accuracy.
Another unique operational feature combines VisTool with a Lawo Compact Engine in the station’s Master Control Room. Normally this combination functions as a cross-point router with touchscreen interface but may also be used to route and mix signals throughout the facility, or to completely bypass the on-air studios during emergency broadcasts. Matching the Compact Engine with a customized VisTool GUI enables Padamyar FM to accomplish a very important task in a very economical way.
“Padamyar FM has designed a beautiful facility that Lawo is proud to be part of,” says Boon Siong Tan, Lawo Sales Director for Southeast Asia. “Their unique workflow showcases the seamless combination of physical and virtual control surfaces throughout the radio station. It’s a wonderful example of how traditional and computer-based broadcast tools can complement each other.”
