Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Southeast, Fox Sports Carolinas, and Fox Sports Tennessee have named James Shapiro as executive producer for the networks. Shapiro will oversee live event and studio production as well as original content for Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta United, Carolina Hurricanes, Charlotte Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, Nashville Predators, and select Atlantic Coast Conference telecasts.
“James has produced award-winning live sporting event coverage, studio based shows and feature content for more than 20 years,” said Jeff Genthner, SVP and general manager. “In addition to his proven skills as a producer and managing executive, James brings an innovative and creative vision to the Fox Sports regional networks serving the Southeast.”
A four-time Emmy Award winner, Shapiro joins the networks after previously serving as coordinating producer for Fox Sports Florida and Fox Sports Sun. In that role, he oversaw live event production of Miami Marlins and Florida Panthers telecasts, along with original programming for both teams. Shapiro also led the networks’ current studio production unit from its 2011 inception through its relaunch in 2017, facilitating the production of all live studio content involving the Marlins, Miami Heat, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Orlando Magic. As a senior producer at the networks from 2003-11, Shapiro led the Orlando-based studio operation and original programming team, including live coverage of Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles football, along with Emmy-winning original programming projects.
Previously, Shapiro served as a supervising producer with Fox Sports Chicago and as a sports producer at WAMI-TV in Miami. He began his career in the sports department at Fox News Channel in New York City. Shapiro received his degree in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa. He and his wife Tara will be based in Atlanta, along with their two sons.
