SVG SportsTech On Demand: IBM Aspera's Mike Flathers on the Combination of Traditional Media and IP

In an effort to keep the broadcast-technology community informed this spring, throughout April, SVG is hosting a series of SportsTech On Demand video interviews with executives from the industry’s top technology vendors discussing their latest product releases and company news. Our Ken Kerschbaumer sat down with Mike Flathers, CTO, IBM Aspera, about the company’s efforts.

According to a recent survey by Ovum Consulting, 77% of media enterprises were dissatisfied with their existing live media transport solution, and by 2023, about 1/4 of all live video will be delivered over IP networks. In sports, IBM Aspera has worked closely with Fox Sports and other broadcasters to use live streaming over IP networks to produce numerous events, including SuperBowl LIV. In this interview, Flathers details how the convergence of traditional media and IP is lowering the costs of live event production and distribution.
