NBC Sports Launches Hockey Culture Platform to Promote Equality, Diversity, Inclusion in the Game

NBC Sports has launched Hockey Culture, a multi-platform content offering dedicated to bringing equality and inclusion to the sport of hockey. Led by NBC Sports NHL analyst Anson Carter, Hockey Culture will address contemporary topics within the sport, aim to promote diversity around the game and on the ice, and increase community engagement with hockey.

“I’m pumped because there’s a lot of talk and performative activism that’s happening right now, and it’s amazing to see NBC Sports not only talking the talk, but walking the walk,” said Carter. “There are a lot of great, diverse stories out there within the game of hockey. Our goal with Hockey Culture is to show the world that the sport of hockey is a place for everyone – not just on the ice, but also off the ice as well.”

New Hockey Culture episodes will debut weekly on Hockey Culture’s dedicated YouTube Channel throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Additional longform stories will be featured across NBC Sports digital and social media platforms. Premiere episodes available now feature Carter’s interviews with:

• Vegas Golden Knights forward and entrepreneur Ryan Reaves
• Arizona Coyotes President & CEO Xavier Gutierrez, the first Latino to hold such a position in the NHL

Upcoming video interviews will feature Minnesota Wild forward J.T. Brown, Hockey Night in Canada: Punjabi commentator Harnarayan Singh and Kelsey Koelzer, the first Black female head coach in NCAA hockey history, among others.

An 11-year NHL veteran, Carter currently serves as an NHL studio analyst for NBC Sports. Over the course of his NHL career, Carter, a native of Toronto, Canada, played in 674 games, producing 202 goals and 219 assists with the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Carolina Hurricanes.
