Telemetrics Specializes in Robotic Camera Systems for Hard-to-Reach Places
Story Highlights
The Sports Video Group is delighted to welcome Telemetrics as a new corporate sponsor. Founded in 1973, the company made its impact on television camera control with the development of Triax cable-connected camera control systems. In 1979, they began designing, manufacturing and supporting its own camera robotics systems, and in 1981, ceiling and floor camera track systems. Today, Telemetrics continues to develop camera control systems used in the sports, studio, legislative, military, and education markets.
Some of these porducts include the OmniGlide Robotic Roving Platform, the expanding series of Robotic Camera Control Panels, The RoboEye Compact Pan/Tilt system, the S5 line of Pan/Tilt heads, the Televator family of motorized columns, and ceiling- or floor-mounted TeleGlide track systems.
Back in October of 2020, the company launched a new robotic Pan/Tilt camera system for mirrorless cameras that feature a Sony Alpha α9 full-frame camera mounted on the Telemetrics PT-CP-S5 Compact Pan/Tilt Head inside a Telemetrics WP-HOU-A9 Weatherproof Camera Housing. The new remotely controlled PT-CP-S5 A9 Weather-Resistant P/T Head Bundle system has been developed for professional photographers looking to capture high-quality (24 MP) still photos for news outlets and sports events.
The new system was used by the Associated Press during the 2020 MLB Postseason and World Series, where it was mounted high atop the respective stadiums to capture still images not possible with a manned camera position. The MLB World Series is yet another application of this system in a live sports setting, providing proof of its reliability and ability to acquire unique images remotely using a Telemetrics RCCP-MJ Robotic Camera Control Panel. A network interface allows users to control the camera and access the images online, while Ethernet, USB and serial interfaces are also included.
“We worked closely with the AP to develop this remotely controlled system, which provided a fully integrated system that was ideal for a number of hard to reach camera positions that provide highly unique and creative POV shots,” said Michael Cuomo, Vice President of Telemetrics. “As its performance at the highest profile sporting events proved, when the goal is to get it right the first time, Telemetrics had the outdoor robotic camera system you can rely on to reliably capture the action.”
The new PT-CP-S5 A9 P/T Head Bundle is a fully integrated, aesthetically pleasing robotic camera package that includes a compact pan/tilt head and weatherproof camera housing to fully protect and control the user’s choice of camera and zoom lens. The system’s robotic servo controls use motors of ultra-high position and velocity accuracy, which makes it the perfect choice for live sports and security applications where there’s no room for failure, while the compact, tightly sealed design satisfies a variety of demanding commercial and industrial applications where high reliability and smooth, accurate camera performance are critical.
