MEDIAPRO Provides Production, VAR Services For CONCACAF Gold Cup Preliminary Rounds
MEDIAPRO Group was selected by CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football), to produce live coverage of the preliminary rounds of the 2021 Gold Cup, the 16th edition of the region’s top national team soccer tournament.
Odyssey, MEDIAPRO Canada’s 40ft 4K expando mobile, was on site at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale to produce a total of nine games for live broadcast. All Prelims matches were broadcast live on OneSoccer, MEDIAPRO Canada’s dedicated soccer channel, which will also air live coverage of the entire Gold Cup.
Concacaf also selected the MEDIAPRO Group as its official supplier for the implementation of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology for its competitions, including the Gold Cup (July 10-August 1), with multiple units of VAR set to be used throughout the tournament.
MEDIAPRO is already the official supplier of VAR technology for several official competitions, including top-tier soccer leagues in Portugal, Greece, Mexico, Chile and the United Arab Emirates, and is responsible for the video refereeing service for many of the most important continental competitions in the world at both club level, as well as national teams, such as the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Sudamericana, the Copa America and the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Gold Cup Prelims were played from July 2-6 and featured the 12 nations that qualified through the Concacaf Nations League. After six first round clashes and a second round three-game slate, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and Guadeloupe came out on top and have advanced through to the Concacaf Gold Cup group stage, where they will face Mexico, El Salvador and Curaçao (Group A), the US, Canada and Martinique (Group B) and Costa Rica, Jamaica and Suriname (Group C) respectively.
The production of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Prelims has coincided with MEDIAPRO Canada’s busiest period since the company was launched in early 2019. It currently has a full REMI production system and crews on site in Winnipeg, MB, for the first nine rounds (June 26-July 24) of the Canadian Premier League, Canada’s first division professional men’s soccer league.
MEDIAPRO Canada mobile units and crews are also producing one first round game per week from the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), the country’s professional men’s basketball league, for live broadcast on the CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster, while the company’s 53′ HD mobile unit Alto, together with a crew of 35, were on location in Victoria, BC for the host broadcasting of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (June 29-July 4).
