John Kvatek Joins FX Design Group

After seventeen-and-a-half years at UCF Athletics, John Kvatek has joined FX Design Group, a leading set and lighting design firm based in Orlando, Florida.

Kvatek, an SVG Pioneer Award recipient and CSVA Sports Video Hall of Fame Inductee, has been brought in to foster partnerships with his contemporaries in sports production around the country.

“I’m excited to get back to the partner/supplier side of the business after all these years,” Kvatek said. “Great sets and lighting make such a difference in studio production and I’m getting to bring our nationally award-winning work to my friends in sports to help raise their level of production. It’s going to be great to get to work closely with the folks I’ve watched and competed with for years.”

For the second year in a row, FX Design Group has tallied three Broadcast Production Awards for local news sets from NewsCast Studio. This year, their work at KHON in Honolulu won awards for Best Local News Set Design and Best Local News Set Design Technology. The set at KVOA in Tucson won the award for Best Local News Set Lighting Design.

In Kvatek’s time at UCF, almost all of their coaches’ shows were shot on sets by FX Design Group. “It was always a great partnership and there isn’t anybody better in the business to work with and learn from than the crew at FX.”
