WealthTV, the national luxury lifestyle and entertainment cable television network, recently purchased and took delivery of nine additional Panasonic AG-3DA1 Full HD 3D camcorders, which represents one of Panasonic’s largest orders for the 3D camera. WealthTV is accelerating its broad-scale 3D production in support of its current 3D VOD deployment and its plans to launch proprietary 3D broadcasts later this year. With WealthTV’s recent order, it now has 15 Panasonic AG-3DA1 camcorders around the world capturing 3D images for its viewers.

Over the last 18 months, WealthTV has dispatched 3D crews to the most desirable destinations around the world, building up an extensive library of 3D series. Recently, WealthTV received access to shoot Paris’ Musee de Louvre in 3D. The multiple -day shoot captured some of the most acclaimed artworks in the world in 3D. WealthTV crews also traveled to Machu Picchu, Peru, the Alhambra in Spain, Cuba, and the Seychelles. Currently the lifestyle network has over a dozen 3D series underway including its adventure travel series “Take-off,” multiple automotive series including “Wealth on Wheels” and “Full Throttle,” its historical documentary series “Blueprints of War,” “Notes from the Future” featuring gadgets and technology, “Natural Wonders of the World,” and more. WealthTV, which began shooting concerts in 3D a year ago, has recently secured the rights to shoot 20 top musical artists in 3D.

“The 3DA1 is a workhorse that we rely upon as our primary camera for all 3D productions,” said Robert Herring, WealthTV’s founder and CEO. “We utterly count on it for all our 3D heavy lifting.”

“We value the Panasonic camcorder for its small size and simplicity of operation,” Herring continued. “The 3DA1 is more reliable than beam splitter rigs, and it carries a very affordable price tag. The camcorders have been perfect in the field, and we can make real magic for the consumer in the edit bay.

“With Panasonic there is a complete 3D solution from one supplier, specifically in terms of monitoring and NLE partners.”

In order to support the increased 3D production, WealthTV has supplemented the number of 3D-capable edit bays to 13 at its 40,000 sq. ft. facility, with further expansion plans underway. The network is using the Dashwood Cinema Solutions’ Stereo3D Toolbox and CineForm’s Neo3D editorial tools.

“We needed an economical solution for 3D production if we’re to bring 3D programming to a mass cable audience,” said Charles Herring, WealthTV’s President. “The Panasonic 3DA1 is providing that solution, and gives us a tremendous advantage, allowing us to shoot easily and cost-effectively with great 3D effects.”
