Comcast SportsNet Chicago Finds MLB Ratings Success

Comcast SportsNet, the television home for the most games and most comprehensive coverage of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs in HD, posted significant Nielsen ratings for the 2008 MLB season, solid increases for both teams compared with their final averages last season.
Comcast SportsNet’s ratings for the potential AL Central Division champion Chicago White Sox finished with a 2.2 household season average in 2008 (approximately 76,320 households watching per game) — 69% over last season’s 1.3 average. In addition, CSN’s ratings for U.S. Cellular White Sox Post Game Live increased 57% from 2007.
The NL Central Division champion Chicago Cubs scored a 5.0 household season average (about 173,455 households per game) —19% over last season’s 4.2 average. The 5.0 average is also the network’s highest Cubs season average in its four-year history. Lowe’s Cubs Post Game Live was up 29% from last year.
“The 2008 White Sox and Cubs seasons have truly given Chicago fans an enormous amount of pride by having two of baseball’s best teams playing in one amazing city,” says James J. Corno, president of Comcast SportsNet Chicago. “We’re very pleased viewers came to us all season long for our comprehensive Cubs and White Sox coverage in HD, and we will certainly deliver our solid pre- and post-game coverage throughout the upcoming playoffs.”
Comcast SportsNet will continue its comprehensive coverage of the Cubs’ (and possibly White Sox’) run throughout the 2008 MLB Playoffs, with live pre-game coverage for selected games and extended live post-game coverage of each game.
