Aerial Video Systems Delivers Oscar Gold at Academy Awards With Wireless RF Cameras

With celebrities strewn across the red carpet and Ellen Degeneres walking the aisles with offers of free pizza and record-breaking selfies, it was no surprise that the 86th Academy Awards telecast required extensive wireless RF cameras to cover all the action. As a result, Aerial Video Systems (AVS) played a key role in the live production, providing a total of seven HD RF cameras to the Academy Awards on the red carpet and for the main show.

“It gives me great pleasure when productions that require the highest possible picture quality and reliability turn to AVS to be their RF camera supplier,” says AVS President Randy Hermes. “We have been diligent in our efforts to deliver a clearly superior product and it has paid off.”

On the Red Carpet with Robin Robers and Lara Spencer, AVS rolled out two HD RF steadicams with video return and rf prompters, two HD RF handheld cameras. These camera systems worked the entire Red Carpret show before moving inside to cover the floor and backstage.

As for the main show, AVS provided an additional two HD RF steadicams with video return and prompters, as well as an HD RF handheld with video return. These cameras operated at 20MHz and 36MB.

AVS also coordinated 1.4GHz, 2.3GHz, and 7GHz frequencies for the camera microwave needs.

With a significant chunk of the show playing out among the celebs in the audience rather than on-stage – thanks to Ellen’s antics – AVS played a massive role in a telecast that saw its ratings rise by 6% from last year (43 million total viewers vs. 40.38 million)
