Mediaset kicks in 64 million Euros for Italian football DTV rights

Telecom Italia Media SpA said it will receive 64 million Euros from Mediaset SpA under a three season deal involving rights to show Italian football games on digital TV networks.
Under the deal, Telecom Italia Media said it will show away games of five clubs — Fiorentina, Palarmo, Cagliari, Sampdoria and Catania — when they play at club grounds where Mediaset has the rights.
‘A similar right will go in favour of Mediaset when Milan, Inter, Roma, Lazio and Torino play away’ at the five clubs where Telecom Italia Media holds the TV rights, it said.
Mediaset will pay 12 million euros for the 2006-2007 season rights, 24 million for 2007-2008, and 28 million for 2008-2009.
The rights deal will boost Telecom Italia Media’s offering of pay-per-view sports events, it said.
