Hockey fans Versus the NHL

The NHL and national TV always have had a rocky, tenuous
relationship, dating at least to NBC’s first experiment with four playoff games
in 1966 — when there were six teams and the current Madison Square Garden
wasn’t yet completed, says Newsday’s Neil Best.

So no one should be surprised about the current predicament of hockey fans,
in which nearly 40 million U.S. households — about 35 percent of the total —
can’t watch the many playoff games on Versus.
