CBS Snaps up to broaden Net play

The Wall Street Journal and others are diving into analysis of the CNET Networks acquisition by CBS Corp. as the broadcaster ponied up $1.8 billion cash to help add gas to CBS owned Internet properties. San Francisco-based CNet
— target of a months-long pressure campaign by activist investors —
operates Web sites including, ZDNet,, and For the first quarter of 2008, CNet reported a net loss of
$6.1 million. But for full-year 2007, the company reported a
profit of $177 million.
