to provide an inside look at the high end world of live sports production.
first were guided through Game Creek Video’s Yankee Clipper by co-EIC’s Marty Gaujenieks and Bruce Kerrigan, who shared their expertise
and experiences in one of GCV’s state of the art mobile HD production
facilities. The two truck unit, in addition to being the primary
production unit for New York Yankee home games, travels with the team
throughout the Northeast, and has produced programming around the country
in venues ranging from the Louisiana Superdome to the U.S. Capitol to Rockefeller
Center, and every World Series seen on FOX for the last four years.
Hilaire, a junior at Iona College, was amazed at the complexity of the
production unit. “It will definitely change the way
I watch a baseball game from now on,” says Hilaire.
second part of the special tour was led by Yankee Stadium Director of
Scoreboard Production, Michael Bonner. Bonner led the group through
the broadcast booths used by both radio and television, and introduced
the students to the crew responsible for producing the show produced
for the 52,000 “viewers” watching the Diamondvision production inside
“The House That Ruth Built.” The production team shared their
experiences of breaking into the business and offered advice on careers
in media production.
Game Creek’s Marty Gaujenieks says, “We welcome the opportunity to
expose the next generation of media professionals to the real world
of sports production. These students may be producing the games
and events in future venues similar to the new Yankee Stadium right
next door that is due to open next year.”
