CBS College Sports Mikes Up Navy Football

By Carolyn Braff
In the spirit of its renewed dedication to live event coverage, CBS College Sports Network is going miked up this weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Navy football hosts Temple for the U.S. Naval Academy’s Senior Day, and Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo will wear a wireless microphone throughout the game, giving CBS College Sports Network viewers a chance to get a taste of life on the Navy sideline.
“Since our launch in 2003, we have pushed to provide fans with more access into college sports than any other network,” explains Tim Pernetti, EVP, content, for CBS College. “We’ve miked up college hockey coaches in a similar fashion, and the content was one of a kind. We have even higher expectations of what Coach Niumatololo will provide through this never-before-seen access on Senior Day as the Mids play for bowl eligibility.”
During Saturday’s game, played at Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., Niumatalolo will be wired for sound with a Lectrosonics microphone. That audio will be incorporated into the broadcast, with additional coverage featuring Navy’s pregame and postgame speeches.
CBS College Sports Network will also use the audio content to present a special 30-minute program,
WIRED: Navy Football, which will air on Thursday Dec. 4. The special will incorporate additional audio footage from Saturday’s game and give an all-access look into the pageantry of Navy football.
“We have many strong relationships in college sports, but Navy football was our first Football Bowl Subdivision package, and we’ve always pushed to distinguish an already special product and atmosphere,” Pernetti says. “Coach Niumatalolo and the entire administration at Navy work with us to turn a football-game telecast into an event each and every Saturday in Annapolis.”
