SUNY College at Brockport Selects FOR-A HVS-500HS For First Digital HD System

SUNY
College at Brockport has purchased FOR-A’s HVS-500HS switcher as part of an
extensive equipment upgrade, overseen by the HD Group, for the Communication
Department, now home to an all-digital system and a new HD studio.
Prior to
the upgrade, SUNY had been operating in an analog environment. According to I.
Alex Alexandrov, director of broadcast operations, administrators decided to
make the switch over HD, bypassing SD, after seeing a demonstration of the
FOR-A switcher at NAB 2007.
“Professional
colleagues of mine recommended the HVS-500HS as one of the top switchers in the
industry,” Alexandrov says. “After seeing it in action at last year’s NAB, we
put it on the list of equipment we knew we were going include in our studio.”
The
students will begin using the studio to its full capacity this August.
Alexandrov added that they decided to add the HVS-500HS in recognition of the
way the switcher meets the need for high definition production in a cost
effective manner.
“Universities
do not have unlimited funds and for the price, the FOR-A HVS-500HS switcher had
the absolute best line-up of features and benefits in a switcher that size,” he
says.
Another
beneficial feature of the HVS-500HS, Alexandrov adds, is its ability to accept
various inputs and outputs. The HVS-500HS is a
self-contained switcher that accepts
analog and digital HD and SD formats, with no external conversion required. One of the switcher’s major innovations is its variety of
input/output interfaces, including SD-SDI, HD-SDI, analog component SD, and analog
component HD.
