USF Football Gets New Game Intro Courtesty of Keyframe

The University of South Florida partnered with Keyframe to create a football package of creative content for the Bulls, including a new opening animation for football that can be seen at the beginning of every home game played at Raymond James Stadium during the 2010 football season.

Other elements Keyframe produced for the football package include headshots, game prompts, logo animations and transitional elements. Keyframe also helped with providing layout options for sponsor windows on their Daktronics video display.

“We’ve always had a good relationship with Keyframe,” says Ayodele Taylor-Dixon, Assistant Athletic Director at USF. “They provide us with a large portion of our content and they’ve always delivered on what we’ve asked for. Keyframe has consistently done a good job in providing a great game-day atmosphere for our fans and our team.”

The opening animation consists of a dark, dramatic thunderstorm setting with black and white outlines of a bull with glowing green eyes that breathes green smoke. The smoke is used for sharp transitions between weight room and practice footage showing the preparation for the day’s game and ends with highlight plays of in-game footage.

“In terms of an opening animation, USF was looking for something that made an immediate connection with players and fans, and something that would provide an identity for the upcoming years,” says Bob Lee, Keyframe Creative Team Manager. “We took their idea and ran with it. It was a relatively quick turnaround and they were pleased with the outcome.”

Creating an effective windowing scheme for USF served as an important element in the game-day presentation since they use a longer, narrower display. The widowing allows for sponsor advertisements to slide onto the display in the upper left corner, lower right corner or both corners while still showing the main focal point of the live or pre-recorded action.

“We wanted to approach this game-day presentation in a slightly different way,” says Keyframe Project Manager Ethan Sevilla. “Once we determined a style for content, we looked at the capabilities of their Daktronics display system and leveraged them to favor USF sponsors. Now sponsors can get recognition for longer periods of time by sponsoring both live game action and replays, and have their name visible on the display the entire time.”

With the ability for animated sponsor pieces to play on the display at the same time as live video, sponsoring replays and live game action is more enticing to advertisers. The live game sponsorship is even more enticing as it provides the ability to sponsor key third downs or fourth down plays as they happen and are being shown on the video board.

Keyframe continues to work with USF throughout the season to update their content at the request of the university.
