AES 2010: Gepco To Highlights Latest Audio Cables, Solutions

Gepco International will hold live demonstrations of their audio cables at AES 2010 (Booth #1313) in San Francisco, November 5-7. Using real-time analytical software, Gepco will demonstrate the quality of their microphone and instrument cables by comparing them to similar off-the-shelf products.  The software will measure handling noise, interference and frequency performance for differences you can not only hear, but see.

Gepco cables used for comparison will include microphone cables such as the extra-flexible X‑Band XB201M, the heavy-duty M1042 and the Quad Star MP1201.  Also used for the comparison will be guitar/instrument cables such as the low-capacitance GLC20 and the extra-flexible X-Band XB20UB.

Gepco Features Heavy-Duty Tactical Cat 5e Cables at AES

Gepco will also feature its Heavy-Duty Tactical Category 5e Cables and Assemblies at AES. The Gepco Brand CT504HD series is an ideal solution for portable or remote patching of Ethernet networks or digital audio/video formats that utilize Cat 5e type interconnects.

Typically, electrical performance and bandwidth of conventional Cat 5 cable is degraded through physical damage when used in portable applications. The unique double-jacket construction of the CT504HD series eliminates this issue.  While the inner jacket maintains the proper physical spacing between pairs to achieve ISO/IEC or TIA/EIA Cat 5e specifications, the durable TPE outer jacket protects the cable from physical damage or abuse.

Gepco’s heavy-duty Cat 5e cables are available in three types including CT504HD, CT504HDX and CTS4504HDX. The original CT504HD has 24 AWG stranded conductors for exceptional flexibility, while the CT504HDX features 24 AWG solid conductors for lower attenuation that allows for the full, recommended TIA distances for Cat 5e network cable. An ideal solution for applications that require multiple or redundant channels of Cat 5e cables in remote production or staging applications, the CTS4504HDX 4-channel snake consists of four elements of CT504HDX under an overall rugged TPE jacket for exceptional durability and flexibility.

Heavy-duty Tactical Category 5e Assemblies provide a pre-terminated cabling solution for hostile environments. The CT504HD, CT504HDX and each element of the CTS4504HDX can be terminated with either standard Cat 5 RJ45 connectors or the ruggedized Neutrik etherCON connectors.

Gepco International Introduces Gepco Powered by Multidyne GP-3500 at AES

In addition, Gepco will introduce the GP-3500, a multi-rate 3G HD-SDI fiber optic transport system at AES 2010.  The GP-3500 is part of the new Gepco Powered by MultiDyne line launched by Gepco last month and made by MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport solutions for the broadcast and pro A/V applications.

The GP-3500 is an economical solution providing 1.5 Gbps (HD-SDI) or 3 Gbps (1080p 3G-SDI) fiber optic transport with audio, intercom and bi-directional data (GPI and tally) over a single fiber. The system can carry two AES digital or four analog audio channels with transcoding (analog in, AES out or vice versa) with two bi-directional auxiliary audio channels for four-wire intercom. Embedded audio is also supported in the HD-SDI video signal. Meanwhile, the data and the GPI channels can be used for control of equipment in remote locations, and the tally relay can be used for control of a camera tally light (or other types of control when not in use with an on-camera tally light).

“The GP-3500 is our first active fiber product offering with audio capability combined with video and data,” says Zajac.  “Through our partnership with MultiDyne we plan to further develop the Gepco Powered by MultiDyne line to include more audio-related products.”

The GP-3500 is available in a standalone portable configuration with an optional triple rack kit.  Also available is the GP-3500’s corresponding simplex fiber cable assembly (GSP01S-Length-ST/ST) in standard or custom lengths.  Gepco will stock the GP-3500 along with all items in the new ­Gepco Powered by MultiDyne line.
