SVG Year in Review: June

2011 marked the summer of 3D tennis and June was no exception, as a large portion of both the French Open and Wimbledon were produced in the third dimension. Toss in ESPN 3D’s production of all six NBA Finals games and you get a month chalked full of 3D sports.

NBC Sports Group had a very busy month, teeing off at the U.S. Open, dropping the puck on its Stanley Cup Finals coverage, dishing out $4.38 billion to hold onto the Olympics through 2020, and finishing off horse racing’s Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes.

SVG’s third-annual College Sports Video Summit was bigger than ever, attracting more than 550 attendees and featuring a keynote speech from legendary University of Texas Women’s AD Chris Plonsky that detailed the game-changing Longhorn Network that the school would soon launch with ESPN. That evening, the College Sports Media Awards once again honored the best the market has to offer. CLICK HERE for SVG’s full coverage of the Summit.

Team SVG was on hand for the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD, as NBC and ESPN pulled out all the stops for their coverage. NBC and NEP teamed up to deploy a staggering 55 cameras and the state-of-the-art Actioncam. Meanwhile, ESPN and Game Creek provided a whirlwind of early round coverage. In addition, Corplex trucks served as the USGA’s main production facilities for Sky Sports in Europe, TV Asahi in Japan, and the world feed.

Other highlights included Fox Sports Southwest’s Dallas Mavericks victory parade coverage, the College World Series on ESPN, NBA Digital and ESPN’s NBA Draft coverage, the ESPN’s travelling studio for the Women’s World Cup, the Tour de France on Versus, the debut of three new Game Creek trucks, and plans from ESPN and Motorola to roll out 1080p/60, full-res 3D services.
