Universal Sports Network and Unipublic Renew Multiplatform Deal for Grand Tour’s Vuelta a España

Universal Sports Network and Unipublic announced a multiyear renewal of their agreement for the Vuelta a España, extending the organizations’ relationship to eight years with exclusive multiplatform media rights to one of cycling’s premier events through 2016.  The four-year agreement includes television, Internet, and mobile rights across the United States and Canada. The Vuelta a España is one of cycling’s three Grand Tours, together with the Giro d’Italia, which also airs on Universal Sports Network, and the Tour de France, which airs on NBC Sports Network.

The three-week race caps the season’s Grand Tour events. Previous overall winners include 2011 champion Juan JoséCobo, Vincenzo Nibali, and Alejandro Valverde, points winners Mark Cavendish, André Greipel, and Alessandro Petacchi, and combo winners Vincenzo Nibali and Alejandro Valverde. The 2012 event will take place from August 18 to September 9 and will feature 21 stages across 3,300 kilometers of the Spanish countryside.

Universal Sports airs more than 110 hours of cycling programming each year. In addition to its two Grand Tours, it also televises Europe’s spring classics, the UCI Road World Championships, the UCI Cyclocross World Cup and World Championships, the UCI Track World Cup and World Championships, and the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and World Championships.

Universal Sports Network recently transitioned to a multi-platform, high definition cable, satellite and IPTVservice. Currently, DIRECTV, DISH and several other cable providers offer Universal Sports Network.
