NBC Sports, Whitaker Highlight 33rd Annual Emmy Awards for Sports

The NBC Sports Group led the way last night when it took home nine Sports Emmys at a ceremony held at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, including two for NBC Sunday Night Football, one for Outstanding Live Sports Series. And Versus snagged the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award for its America’s Cup Highlight Show.
Major League Baseball was front and center for the night as Fox Sports MLB coverage captured awards for Outstanding Technical Team Remote (shared with ESPN 3D for Winter X Games 15), Outstanding Live Event Audio/Sound, Outstanding Live Sports Special for The World Series. Meanwhile MLB Network’s “MLB Tonight” nabbed honors for Outstanding Daily Studio Show.
PGA.com and Turner Sports won Outstanding New Approaches to Sports Event Coverage for the PGA Championship Live, and CBS Sports “A Game of Honor” won New Approaches for Sports Programming.
For the night ESPN captured six awards, Turner Sports and Fox Sports five each, CBS Sports four, HBO and MLB Network three each, NFL Network two, and PGA.com one.
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jack Whitaker, sports commentator and essayist, by Jim Nantz, play-by-play announcer of “The NFL on CBS,” NCAA college basketball and golf on CBS.

CBS Sports lead play-by-play announcer presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to sportscasting legend Jack Whitaker.
In addition, NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell was honored with the Chairman’s Award representing the networks and their patriotic coverage of the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks last fall.
