Illumination Dynamics Supplies Power, Lighting, Climate Control at X Games

For the 11th consecutive year, Illumination Dynamics provided generator power, lighting and climate control for Summer X Games. The four-day event transformed Los Angeles’s downtown sports/entertainment complex that includes Staples Center, Nokia Theater, LA Live, and multiple parking and event decks into race tracks, skate parks, and motocross ramps, as well as a venue for thousands of fans.

Providing and distributing power to X-Games was a Herculean task that began with the delivery of the first ID generator to the first office trailer in early June. As show time approached, Illumination Dynamics’ crew led by Director of Broadcast, Rich Williams, placed eight generators throughout the locations — including redundant twin units to guarantee uninterrupted power to the broadcast trucks.

Additionally, Illumination Dynamics installed one hundred tons of air conditioning to keep both personnel and equipment cool and functioning in LA’s summertime heat. To ensure that the announce booths, X Center Stage and Awards Stage were always broadcast-ready for the frequent interviews, commentary and awards, Illumination Dynamics provided lighting to those locations with primarily ARRI HMI fixtures. ID also supplied on-site technicians and generator operators at all times to immediately respond to every situation.  For the second year, Illumination Dynamics contributed an environmentally friendly hydrogen fuel cell which allowed guests to charge their cell phones and tablets.

The explosion of cutting-edge technology and platforms allowed this ultimate extreme sports competition to reach and interact with its millions of international fans, and the veteran X-Games production staff delivered many hours of spectacular live broadcast. Providing the most reliable equipment and unsurpassed customer service, Illumination Dynamics is proud to have been a part of this team.
