EEG Video’s Lexi Automatic Captioning Supports AWS Media Intelligence Solutions

EEG Video has announced support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Media Intelligence (AWS MI) solutions. Through this collaboration, EEG’s Lexi Automatic Captioning service and Alta IP Video Captioning Encoder are now available as part of AWS MI solutions.

AWS Media Intelligence solutions allow organizations to analyze their media content, discover new insights and opportunities, and increase the lifetime value of the content. Available through AWS Partners, AWS Media Intelligence solutions make it easy to add machine learning (ML) to media content workflows, with no prior ML experience required. They cover 4 important use cases: content search and discovery, captioning and localization, compliance and brand safety, and content monetization.

Powered by AWS, EEG’s Lexi and Alta solutions make closed captioning and subtitling easy and affordable for more content creators to implement into their productions. Lexi and Alta simplify the process for content creators who want to add AI and ML capabilities into their workflows.

As demand expands for fresh content and enhanced audience experiences, content creators find it increasingly challenging to add closed captions to videos and live events at scale. Captioning is essential to provide accessible content and reach wider audiences. It is also increasingly a mandated accommodation to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.

Viewers who benefit from closed captions include people who are deaf or hearing impaired, prefer to have text supplement the video, or are in an environment where sound is unavailable or inaudible. In addition, subtitling in multiple languages is effective for localizing content to reach audiences worldwide.

The Lexi Automatic Captioning service from EEG empowers users to easily and affordably live caption their content with high accuracy and low latency. AI-driven and hosted on the AWS Cloud, EEG’s Lexi is capable of delivering over 95% accuracy in English, Spanish, and French for many common media types, making it optimal for improving compliance and accessibility on currently uncovered material.

EEG’s Alta IP Video Captioning Encoder is also now powered by AWS. Alta merges intelligent captioning and translation capabilities to cloud-based video workflows operating in MPEG-TS, SMPTE 2110, and works with the AWS Cloud Digital Interface (AWS CDI). AWS CDI is a network technology that allows you to transport high-quality uncompressed video inside the AWS Cloud, with high reliability and network latency as low as 8 milliseconds.

Alta processing pipelines can be run in an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), or in full-service short-term packages from EEG with the Alta Cloud Rentals program. An Amazon VPC lets you provision a logically isolated section of the AWS cloud where you can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that you define.

EEG Video’s solutions serve customers in broadcasting, streaming content, corporate, live and virtual event production, education, health, government, and more.

“We had considered human captioners, but then I saw that Lexi Automatic Captioning was even faster to implement and available on demand,” says Ally Brooks, Senior Manager, Production & Systems for New Jersey-based event production agency Eventage. “Providing closed captioning for attendees who are hard of hearing is the professional way to produce virtual events. With the high-quality captioning of EEG’s solutions, we deliver exactly what our clients expect.”

The application of AI/ML for media intelligence can boost effectiveness and efficiency, leading to lower costs and a better audience experience.

“Advances in cloud, IP-based video workflows, and Machine Learning AI are all helping to evolve content distribution,” says Bill McLaughlin, VP of Product Development for EEG. “At EEG Video, we provide our users with their simplest vision of what closed captioning could be. Lexi Automatic Captioning and the Alta IP video processor give high accuracy live captioning, on demand and in the cloud, for professional video productions using MPEG-TS, SMPTE 2110, or AWS CDI.”
