Marquee Sports Network Becomes First to Use ‘Megalodon’ Camera on MLB Broadcast

Marquee Sports Network has introduced a new camera technology never before seen on a live MLB game broadcast. Nicknamed the “Megalodon,” it is a high-resolution, shallow depth of field wireless camera allowing for cinematic live-action shots. CLICK HERE to see it in action.

The use of these shallow-depth of field systems has been skyrocketing as of late on live-sports broadcasts, including on the NFL (by Fox Sports and CBS Sports), as well as on The Masters (by CBS) and the NBA All-Star Game (by Turner Sports). The camera technology, which has face and eye detection allowing for pristine auto focus, was previously utilized during NFL games, including the Super Bowl, as well as the Masters.

“We’re always looking for ways to innovate the live game broadcast and we’re fortunate to be able to do this with great leadership on the production side in Mike Leary and Mike Fox, spearheading the use of this new camera technology,” says Marquee Sports Network SVP Programming and Production, Mike Santini. “We’re appreciative of our partnership with the Cubs, allowing field access to capture the stunning up-close shots and bringing Cubs fans closer than ever to their favorite players.”
