CONCACAF Relies on The Switch for Connectivity, Transmission During 2021 Gold Cup

The Switch is providing connectivity and transmission services to the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Switch is leveraging its first-mile connectivity expertise and network reach to provide delivery of live video feeds from stadiums across the United States of the premier international soccer tournament in the northern Americas. The Switch is further distributing the production to international broadcasters via its cloud-based transmission system, provided through its MIMiC platform, enabling fans throughout the region and around the world to enjoy uninterrupted coverage from every venue.

CONCACAF is relying on The Switch’s ability to provide connectivity from any major North American sports venue and its fiber delivery network to transport over 2,000 hours of uninterrupted live feeds to the Confederation’s production center in Florida. For distribution to international broadcasters, CONCACAF is also relying for the first time on MIMiC Transmission – part of The Switch’s Cloud Video Services platform. The Switch is supporting all 31 matches of the Gold Cup, which takes place in July and August and is also working with the main broadcast rightsholder, Univision, delivering live feeds for its broadcast and streaming coverage.

“We’re delighted to be working with CONCACAF to reach its fans as it celebrates 60 years of bringing thrilling international soccer competitions to the Caribbean and North and Central America,” says Rick Behar, Vice President of Sales at The Switch. “With The Switch’s own longstanding history of producing and delivering high-quality, reliable live video feeds from any venue worldwide using the internet or fiber, we’re able to support rightsholders of all types in providing compelling sports coverage.”

The 2021 Gold Cup tournament is being played in 11 stadiums across the US with the final being played on August 1 in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home of the NFL’s Raiders. Fans are allowed to attend matches but not all stadiums are at full capacity.
