EVS’s XtraMotion Slo-Mo Service Takes Home IABM BaM Award

With already two award wins this year, XtraMotion has once again received recognition from the industry at the 2021 IABM BaM Awards. EVS’ super slow-motion service was announced the winner of the ‘Create’ category during a virtual awards ceremony that took place on December 9.

Judges were impressed with the new service, stating: “XtraMotion is about moving the industry from hardware to software. It’s using the Cloud instead of on-site technology that makes us think differently – its’ a real harbinger of the future.”

Launched in May 2021, XtraMotion is a software application designed to enable the transformation of footage from any camera angle on a production into high-speed video using frame interpolation. As a result, productions can easily increase their super slow-motion coverage without having to deploy additional hardware on-site.

Laurent Petit, SVP Product and Solutions said: “We truly appreciate the industry recognizing our vision which is to continue leveraging the power of AI in order to improve the quality of live content, and to extend the capabilities of our on-premises equipment with services deployed in the Cloud.”

“XtraMotion combines many of the strengths that are characteristics of EVS’ success, including AI, the Cloud, replay technology and fast-turnaround capabilities” says Olivier Barnich, Head of Innovation at EVS. “Not only is it a breakthrough innovation, it is also a major achievement in terms of collaboration between all R&D teams who’ve worked tirelessly together on delivering an exciting new storytelling tool for broadcasters and media companies to take advantage of on their productions.”

The annual IABM BaM Awards recognize outstanding technological innovations that deliver real business and creative benefits. Winners were selected from over 200 entries by a panel of more than 40 independent judges, each with expertise in one or more of the five awards categories.
