Professional Triathletes Organization Teams With CBC Sports on Broadcast Coverage of PTO Tour, First PTO Canadian Open
Canada’s Olympic Network will provide extensive coverage of all PTO Tour events in 2022, live and free-to-all via CBC Sports digital platforms: CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices.
Starting with the first-ever PTO Canadian Open in Edmonton – which will also be featured as part of CBC Sports weekend programming on CBC TV – CBC Sports coverage will include:
- The PTO Canadian Open, Edmonton, AB, Canada (July 23-24)
- The second edition of the Collins Cup in Bratislava, Slovakia (August 20)
- The PTO US Open in Dallas, Texas, US (September 17-18)
- Preview shows and highlights packages before/after each PTO Tour event
“The new PTO Tour is all about putting the amazing exploits and compelling stories of the world’s best triathletes onto the screens of more sports fans around the world,” says Tim Godfrey, PTO CMO. “We can’t wait to get things under way in Edmonton next month, which is why this deal with CBC Sports to show our first-ever PTO Canadian Open live across channels is so important.”
The PTO is a new body co-owned by the professional athletes, seeking to grow the sport and take it to the next level. The PTO Tour race schedule for 2022 includes: the first-ever PTO Canadian Open (July 23-24); the second edition of $1.5M Ryder Cup-style Collins Cup (August 20), which sees Team Europe take on Team USA and Team International; and the first PTO US Open (September 17-18). Each Open carries a minimum prize money of $1M and will be raced over 100km (2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run).
“This is a very unique and special opportunity to race a major PTO event in my hometown,” says PTO World No. 10, Paula Findlay. “I grew up training on this race course as a kid, so to come back to race on it in 2022 and share it with the sport’s biggest names is very cool. It’s absolutely a race that you don’t want to miss.”
In 2023 and 2024, the PTO Tour plans to expand with the PTO European Open and the PTO Asian Open, alongside their US and Canadian equivalents and the Collins Cup.
