Regardless of Lockout, DirecTV Owes NFL $1 Billion in 2011

As the prospect of a NFL players lockout becomes more and more probable in 2011, DirecTV finds itself in quite a predicament.
According to Multichannel News, The satellite provider is required to pay the NFL one billion dollars regardless of whether or not NFL football is even played in 2011, per a previous deal between the two.
The NFL and NFL Players Association are reportedly far apart on terms of a new labor agreement, and the league’s hiring of lockout strategy specialist Bob Batterman (he oversaw the 2004-05 NHL players lockout) does not bode well for football in 2011.
