Story Highlights
United TV, a 24-7 broadcast network in Ghana, has deployed TVU Networks’ TVUPack cellular uplink solutions to expand the network’s live newsgathering efforts. As a recently launched major broadcasters on the African continent, United TV needed a solution that enabled them to broadcast live video captured from various remote regions throughout Ghana.
After considering alternative cellular ENG products, United TV selected TVUPack mobile IP newsgathering solutions because of its ability to deliver a powerful, resilient transmission and its ease of use in the field.
“Our goals are to deliver live coverage from any region of the country as it happens,” said Carlos Owusu, MCR Team Manager. “We knew that we needed a cellular ENG solution, and selected TVUPack initially because of its excellent reviews and user recommendations. As we began using TVUPack in our regular news operations, we were thrilled with not only how easy it is to operate in the field, but in the high quality video that we’re able to broadcast from throughout Ghana.”
With the help of TVUPack, United TV has been able to dramatically expand its newsgathering operations throughout the country, relying upon the solution to cover news with significant national impact. “TVUPack has greatly enhanced our ability to cover important events in Ghana. The TVUPack was instrumental in our coverage of the state funeral of late president HE Atta Mills. We managed to capture memorial shots and bring them to over a million viewers in their homes,” said Owusu.
Since deploying TVUPack, the solution has become a trusted newsgathering tool for United TV, and is an important part of the broadcaster’s daily news operations.
“We use the TVUPack on a daily basis to cover a variety of stories for our mid-day news bulletin, whether it be an environmental story, corporate and government press conferences, accidents or other breaking news,” explained Owusu. “In the future, we plan to expand our use of the TVUPack to cover the Ghana parliament and sporting events as well.”
