ESPN Digital Media Reaches 90 Million U.S. Fans in November

Driven by coverage of the NFL, College Football, the NBA, College Basketball, and ESPN Fantasy Football, ESPN reached 89.9 million unique visitors in the U.S. in November, the sixth largest total all-time in the sports category. ESPN owns 14 of the top 15 all-time monthly unique visitor totals in sports.

espn-logoFans spent 9.0 billion minutes using ESPN digital properties, and ESPN accounted for 29.3 percent of all sports category time spent on digital platforms, 35 percent more than the No. 2 property. 

ESPN attracted 1.0 billion total visits, more than the Nos. 2 and 3 sports properties combined.  This was the fifth time ESPN has crossed the 1 billion visit threshold, and the third month in a row.  No other sports property has ever reached that mark.

  • November marked the 21st straight month during which ESPN led the sports category for monthly unique visitors and total minutes. 
  • ESPN’s 100.1 minutes per visitor was higher than any of the top 100 category properties. 
  • The ESPN.com site reached 71.4 million unique visitors across platforms over the course of the month.
  • On mobile devices alone, 73.1 million unique users accessed ESPN web and app content.  Users spent 6.0 billion minutes with ESPN on mobile devices.
  • ESPN reached 18.6 million average daily unique users on smartphones, up 13 percent over last year, and 90 percent more than no. 2 Yahoo! Sports-NBC Sports Network (9.8 million).
  • 68 percent of ESPN’s unique users – 60.8 million people – exclusively accessed content on smartphones and tablets.  67 percent of all time spent with ESPN digital content was consumed by mobile device users.
  • ESPN accounted for three of the top four sports apps on smartphones and tablets in November in terms of unique users, with the ESPN app topping the category (13.7 million), accompanied by No. 3 WatchESPN (9.1 million) and No. 4 ESPN Fantasy Football (7.3 million).
  • ESPN’s portfolio of apps remained at the top of the sports category in uniques, reaching 28.5 million U.S. users in total.

  • 10.0 million unique devices streamed WatchESPN content in November, up 38 percent from a year ago.  Viewers spent 2.1 billion minutes with programming across all platforms, up 66 percent.November marked the second most-streamed, non-World Cup month ever for WatchESPN.
  • Fans watched 458.7 million ESPN digital video clips in November, up nine percent from a year ago.  November’s total was ESPN’s fourth-highest of all-time and the fourth consecutive month with more than 400 million video clip views.
